Steps in applying for Canada Visa
You may apply for a Canadian Visa either online or on paper through Canada Visa Application Center (CVAC).
You may apply online through Canada’s immigration and citizenship website. The types of Canadian visa you can lodge online include visitor visas, study permits, work permits, and skilled worker programs through Express Entry. You can also apply for visitor visas of family members online.[ii]
To be able to apply online, you are required to have access to a scanner or camera to be able upload and electronically submit all required documents. You also need a valid credit card to pay for the necessary fees.

Here is an overview of the steps you need to follow shared by VFS Global in order to apply for Canada Visa.
Step 1. Read information and download visa forms and checklist at the Canadian Embassy Website
If you already know which type of Canada visa to apply for, read about them in the Canada Embassy website. Once done, you may then download and print the necessary application forms and checklist of requirements.
Step 2. Fill out the application form and other required forms
Make sure that the application form and other forms, including the barcoded sheets, are printed clearly on white, bond quality, non-glossy paper using laser printer.[iii] Then, fill out the forms completely and honestly.
Step 3. Complete other requirements in the checklist
Aside from the necessary forms, you also need to secure and provide the necessary documents in the checklist. Incomplete requirements could result to the delay of your visa application or even refusal of your Visa. Other requirements usually include the following:
- Photocopy of your passport with its important details;
- Visa photos that meet their specifications;
- Proof of financial support
- Photocopy of marriage license, if applicable;
- Purpose of travel;
- Custody documents for minors travelling with a parent or travelling alone; and
- Other required documents.[iv]
Step 4. Download, print, and fill out the VFS Consent form

You may pay your fees at any Union Bank branch in the Philippines. Download the correct payment form provided here and bring it with you to the bank. When payment is done, include the copy of your deposit slip in your visa application.[v]
You may also pay online using your credit card or debit card. Make sure you have a valid email address to confirm your payment. Print your electronic receipt and submit it with your application.[vi]
Step 6. Visit CVAC with all the requirements
Once you have completed all the forms, gathered all the requirements, and paid the Canada visa application fees, you may now visit CVAC with branches in Manila and Cebu. Bring all the requirements with you in one envelope. Please bring your passport. You also need to prepare for the applicable service charge for visa processing.
Step 7. Pay your service charge and submit your application
As you arrive at CVAC (VFS Global), you may then pay your service charge by cash or by Manager’s check made payable to “VFS Services Phils. Pvt. Inc.”. Submit your application at once and get a receipt. The receipt will include your tracking number that you can use to track the progress of your Canada visa application online.[vii]
After submission, the staff will check the forms and other requirements you have submitted according to the checklist. They will then forward your application to the Canadian Visa Office who will assess if you get to have a Canada Visa or not.
If your visa application has been approved, a visa counterfoil will be attached to your passport that will be sent back to you. Otherwise, you will be given a letter explaining why you could not be granted a Canadian visa.[viii]
